πŸ“’ Introducing RIVeR 3 – Now Open-Source and More Powerful Than Ever

Hi everyone,

If you’ve ever downloaded or used the earlier MATLAB version of RIVeR from this blog β€” first of all, thank you. Your interest, feedback, and questions have helped shape what comes next.

I’m excited to share that the next generation is here:
πŸŽ‰ RIVeR 3 is now available!

πŸš€ What’s New in RIVeR 3

βœ… Fully open-source and free to use
βœ… Rewritten from the ground up in Python + React
βœ… No more MATLAB dependencies or license requirements
βœ… Modern, intuitive graphical interface with guided workflows
βœ… Multilingual: English, Spanish, and French
βœ… Easy-to-install binaries for Windows, macOS, Ubuntu, and more
βœ… Powerful Command Line Interface (CLI) for batch workflows
βœ… Automatic HTML reports for documentation and sharing
βœ… Developed as part of the RIVeR-LAC project, supported by WMO HydroHub and IDB

RIVeR 3 is the result of everything we’ve learned so far β€” and it’s built for real-world hydrometric monitoring using Large-Scale Particle Image Velocimetry (LSPIV).

πŸ“˜ Best Practice Guidelines Included

We’ve also released comprehensive LSPIV Best Practice Guidelines in English and Spanish. These documents are designed to help new users get started quickly β€” including setup advice, visual guides, field tips, and more.

πŸ›  Support and Development

From now on, RIVeR will be maintained and supported by ORUS,
in collaboration with the National University of CΓ³rdoba (UNC).

This partnership ensures continuity, innovation, and technical support for users in Latin America and beyond.

We’re also building a growing community through GitHub, so users can ask questions, suggest features, and contribute improvements.

⚠️ End of Support for MATLAB Version

As of this release, the MATLAB-based version of RIVeR is no longer supported or maintained.
We encourage all users to transition to RIVeR 3 β€” it’s faster, easier, and actively developed.

We’d love your feedback β€” any suggestion, idea, or bug report helps us improve and grow the project.
Feel free to comment here or open an issue on GitHub.

Thanks again for being part of the RIVeR story.
Let’s keep building open, smart tools for hydrology together! 🌊
